| June Thomas studied at the School of Practical Arts and the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, MA She received her BA in Art Education from William Patterson College in New Jersy and taught school for a period of time in the NJ area. After moving to Vermont, she taught in Barre, Newbury, Bradford and Fairlee schools. Her teaching included children from grades one through twelve and for a while, she even taught the first six grades all together in a one room school house. Following her teaching career, June opened an art supply and craft store in South Newbury,VT and at the Bridgewater Mill near Woodstock. During this time Ms.Thomas also taught all media painting and drawing in Adult Education in Bradford and later opened her own studio in South Newbury. For many years, she worked extensively with stained glass and created insert panels for cabinets to be used by local furniture makers. In the past, June has also been involved with lamp shades, windows and unique custom pieces which were commissioned by custormers all over the world. June Thomas now paints exclusively with watercolors, which has always been her media of choice, because of the surprises that are revealed with every brush stroke. She enjoys "capturing and recreating the essence of New Hampshire and Vermont that used to be, barns, buildings and things that hold memories of other times". Her work has been exhibited at art shows, galleries, hospitals, restaurants and hotels locally as well as in Florida where she and her husband, Jack, spend part of their retirement. They spend the balance of their time in Lyman and enjoy spending as much time as possible enjoying their three children and eight grandchildren. |
